The Crisis
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall near Bluefields, Westmoreland, Peter Tosh’s hometown, as the strongest storm to hit Jamaica in over 170 years. A Category 5 monster with 185 mph winds that didn’t just damage the island. It erased entire communities. 90% of homes in Bluefields were destroyed or left without roofs. Roads became impassable. Families were cut off from food, water, and medical care for weeks.
The foundation Peter Tosh’s daughter Niambe built to uplift Belmont-Bluefields is now on the front lines of the most devastating disaster in Jamaican history. Peter Tosh Town, the community development initiative rooted in his legacy, went from building schools and opportunity to providing food, shelter, medical supplies, and hope to people who lost everything overnight.
